Studio Lighting

We were given time as a group to experiment with different types of studio lighting, to see all of the different types and the effects that you can get from using them. Below we have experimented with a few different types of studio lighting.

Butterfly Lighting

Settings:
1/100 f/11 ISO:100

Above are three examples of 'Butterfly Lighting' this is done by placing the light high in front of the subject, meaning a shadow will form under the nose of the subject, which are in the shape of a butterflies wings.

Side Lighting

Settings:
1/100 f/11 ISO:100

Here is an example of 'Side lighting' to get this effect we placed the light to the left, meaning that strong shadows have formed on the right side of the face, where the light can not reach, creating strong contrast with the left side of the face which is fully lit.

Rembrandt Lighting

Settings:
1/100 f/11 ISO:100

Above is an example of 'Rembrandt lighting' this has been created by placing the light higher that the head and round to the left side, yet still in front of the person, forming an upside down triangle underneath their eye.

Hollywood Lighting

Settings:
1/100 f/11 ISO:100

The effect of 'Hollywood lighting' is created by pushing the light further round towards the back of the subject, allowing little light to reach their face, but where it does it light up their nose and the side of the face closest to the light.

Rim Light

Settings:
1/100 f/11 ISO:100

We got the effect of 'Rim lighting' by placing the light behind the subject aiming for the back of the head, meaning an outline will form around their head, yet I do not feel this example is very successful in showing rim lighting.

Hair Light

Settings:
1/100 f/11 ISO:100

Above is an example of 'Hair light', you place the light above and slightly behind the subject, aiming at their hair.
